Tips for Capturing Precious Moments with Your Furry Friend

As a photographer who’s OBSESSED with my dog, I cannot express enough how much joy it brings me to capture the bond between a pet and its owner! Dogs are the perfect photography subjects because they radiate happiness and love! However, planning a shoot with your furry friend can be tricky… Here are some helpful dog photography tips to keep in mind when considering booking a shoot with your pup!

Bring a Helper

It’s always best to bring a friend or family member with you to help hold your pup while we’re taking photos of just you, and to help grab the pup’s attention! Not only will it be helpful to have an extra set of hands, but it’s also great to have someone there who knows your dog’s personality and can help bring out their unique qualities in the photos!

Treats & Toys

Don’t forget to bring your pup’s favorite treats and favorite toy! Dogs can be easily distracted, and it’s important to have something that will catch their attention and hold it there. Treats can be used as a reward for good behavior, while toys can be used to create playful and candid moments.

Location is Key

You’ll want to pick a location based on how your pup interacts with others. I can help you choose the perfect location for your shoot, taking into account your dog’s personality and preferences! Generally, if your dog is sociable and loves to be around other people and animals, a busy park or beach may be the perfect spot! However, if your pup is more introverted and easily stressed, a quieter and more secluded location may be best.

Make Them Comfy

It’s important to make sure your dog is well-rested and has used the bathroom before the shoot. it’s also a good idea to bring water and a bowl for your pup to keep them hydrated, especially if the shoot takes place during warm weather!

Embrace the Unpredictable

Lastly, try to have fun and enjoy the experience! Photography sessions with dogs can be unpredictable, but that’s what makes them so special. We’ll work together to capture candid moments and embrace the chaos! Remember to stay patient, positive, and flexible, and we’ll create a beautiful collection of photos that showcases your bond!
