Confidence Starts Here: Self Care & Pampering

It’s no secret that what we put in our bodies affects how we look and feel. The best thing we can do for ourselves and our bodies is to stay hydrated- the more water the better! If there was ever a time to drink up, its the week of your photoshoot! Sugar and dairy products have also been linked with breakouts, so being aware and proactive of this the week leading up to your photoshoot will do wonders for you and your skin! If you enjoy getting facials or wax treatments, I recommend getting it done at least 2-3 days beforehand so any potential irritation will be gone before your photos.

If you are newly engaged, something else to consider is your nails! We gotta make sure your fingers are looking clean and fresh for those rings shots (don’t worry winter girlies, I always have lotion in my bag)!

Getting your hair and makeup professionally done is a game-changer. Some of my clients even use their engagement shoot as a chance to test out their wedding day look. Not only does it save you time, but it’s a surefire way to feel polished and confident. Trust me—feeling a little extra “done-up” can give you that boost of self-assurance we all need. Need recommendations? I’ve got a list of pros who’ll take fantastic care of you!

Coordinate Without Matching

The key to looking effortlessly cohesive with your partner? Coordination, not matching. Start with a “hero” piece that you love, like a stunning dress or a great shirt. Build a complementary color palette around it. Think earthy tones or neutrals—nothing too loud. Let’s make your outfit the focal point while ensuring everything else adds balance. Avoid anything with thin lines (creates a moire effect that I cannot edit out), neon colors (simply does not look great with my editing style), mixing patterns, clothes with logos or any writing/print, and anything that makes you self conscious. By avoiding those things, your photos will automatically become more timeless and beautiful! If all fails, you can never go wrong with a white top and a white dress for an engagement session- don’t be afraid to have one person slightly casual, and one more dressy!

Want Something Unique Without Breaking the Bank?

If splurging on a new outfit feels like too much, why not try renting? Online shops like Rent the Runway or Salt Gowns offer quality pieces you can borrow and return. Some other sites I love for shopping are Baltic Born, Lulu’s, Bohme, and Morning Lavender! Checkout facebook marketplace or groups (Philly girls- if you haven’t joined the Philaqueens FB group, you are missing out), borrow from a friend or channel your inner Harley and treat yourself to a shopping spree (I’ll cheer you on!).

Comfort Meets Style

Your photoshoot outfit should reflect you and make you feel confident. If you’re uncomfortable, it will show in your photos! When trying on your outfit, see how it looks and feels when your sitting, standing, and moving because sessions with me are far from boring, we are always movin’! Wear something that fits well, and if you’re rocking heels, make sure they’re comfy or pack a pair of flats so we can explore every nook and cranny of our shoot location without worrying about sore feet.

Accessorize Like a Pro

Accessories can take your outfit from “meh” to magnificent. Layering with items like jackets, scarves, bags or statement necklaces not only adds dimension but also gives you options during the shoot. Plus, they’re great for giving your hands something to do!

Let’s Talk About Color

Neutrals and earth tones are your best friends for natural settings. Jewel tones like emerald green, ruby red, sapphire blue or amethyst purple are great to help you really pop, especially in those fall months! Pastels can also be a fun choice in the spring and summer months! All these options blend beautifully while ensuring you still stand out. Avoid overly bright or aggressive colors that might clash with the surroundings. A subtle pop of color can add interest, but keep it balanced—less is more!

Try Everything On

Always test your outfit combinations a few days before the shoot to make sure everything works together. Trust me, I’ve been there—the struggle is real, and tears might even happen. But don’t worry, I’m here to help! Feel free to text me pictures of your outfit options. I’m happy to give feedback and cheer you on.

Elevate Your Style

Don’t change who you are for the shoot; instead, let’s take your style to the next level. Start with a neutral base, then add texture and flair with layers. The most important thing? Wear clothes that fit you well and make you feel amazing. If it’s too tight and you’re not feeling it, it’s a no. But if it’s snug and you’re channeling your inner baddie—YES QUEEN, YES!

Bring A Backup Option (or two)

Depending on which package you booked, your session may include some outfit changes (optional of course), but it is a great way to add some variety to your photos! Sometimes the fit you had planned in your head isn’t what you’re feeling great in on the day of the photoshoot, or maybe you went out to lunch and a small little drop of oil fell smack dab in the middle of your top (happens to me all the time). For these reasons and many more, I think it is always good to have a backup outfit in the car!
